1. Product Overview

Chemlok® 205 TW Primer is a gray, solvent-based adhesive primer specifically designed for use under Chemlok® covercoat adhesives. It promotes strong bonding between metals or other rigid substrates and a wide range of vulcanized or unvulcanized rubber compounds. As a MIBK-free version of the traditional Chemlok® 205, it offers a safer solvent profile while maintaining excellent adhesion, durability, and environmental resistance. In certain cases, it can also function as a one-coat adhesive for bonding nitrile rubber directly to substrates.

2. Applications

  • Serves as a primer beneath Chemlok® covercoat adhesives (e.g., 220, 230, 250, and 6000 series).

  • Bonds rubber compounds, including nitrile, to ferrous and non-ferrous substrates.

  • Compatible with brush, dip, roll coat, or spray application methods.

  • Suitable for vulcanization molding processes such as compression, transfer, and injection molding.

  • Ideal for industrial production lines requiring consistent adhesion and resistance to heat, environmental exposure, and rubber tear failure.

3. Typical Properties

Property Not Mixed After Mixed (if applicable)
Appearance Gray liquid
Viscosity (cps, 25°C, Brookfield LVT, Spindle 2, 30 rpm) 80–480
Density (kg/m³ / lb/gal) 940–980 / 7.85–8.18
Solids Content by Weight (%) 21–25
Flash Point (Seta, °C/°F) -5 / 23
Solvent System MEK, Butyl Acetate, Xylene

Chemlok® 205 TW Primer exhibits low-to-moderate viscosity, ensuring easy application and good coverage. Its solids content ensures strong film integrity, while its density range allows consistent handling across application methods. The low flash point highlights the need for careful storage and handling. With robust solvent compatibility, it provides reliable adhesion performance under a wide range of industrial conditions, especially when paired with Chemlok® covercoat adhesives.
