1. Product Overview

Elan-tron® MC 5430/W 5868 is a two-component, room-temperature curing epoxy resin system, consisting of Rhenatech EP 5430 resin and W 5868 hardener. The filled, solvent-free system exhibits excellent adhesion, high thermal resistance (Class H, 180 °C), and strong electrical and mechanical properties. It is RoHS compliant and suitable for manual or vacuum casting. Post-curing optimizes electrical and mechanical performance while avoiding abrupt temperature changes. Components should be stored sealed in cool, dry conditions to prevent moisture sensitivity and filler settling.

2. Applications

  • Impregnation and coating of rotors, interpole coils, and field coils.

  • Casting between winding bars.

  • Production of magnets and motors subjected to continuous, high-stress operation.

3. Typical Properties

The system provides stable processing with a predictable pot life and curing profile. The mixed epoxy demonstrates moderate initial viscosity and manageable gel times. Once cured, it achieves good hardness, glass transition temperature, and thermal conductivity. Water absorption is low, and it exhibits strong electrical insulation, mechanical strength, and dimensional stability. The system is suited for high-temperature electrical applications, offering resistance to thermal, mechanical, and electrical stress.
