1. Product Overview
ARALDITE® AV 4900 is a one-component, heat-curing epoxy adhesive presented as a free-flowing paste. It offers high impact strength and toughness, even at subzero temperatures, and is suitable for structural bonding of metals. The adhesive exhibits excellent chemical resistance, heat resistance up to 160°C, and high peel strength. It is designed for high-performance applications where strong, durable metal-to-metal bonds are required, and it cures fully when heated between 150–200°C.
2. Applications
-
Bonding of various metals in structural and industrial applications
-
High-impact and high-toughness joints at subzero temperatures
-
Joints requiring chemical resistance and heat resistance
-
Assembly where lap shear strength and durability are critical
Surface Pretreatment: Clean surfaces with degreasing agents such as acetone; avoid low-grade alcohols, gasoline, or paint thinners. For optimal strength, mechanically abrade or chemically etch (“pickling”) the surfaces, followed by a second degreasing step.
Application:
-
Apply 0.05–0.10 mm adhesive layer to pretreated surfaces.
-
Assemble and clamp immediately to ensure even contact pressure.
-
Cure at 150–200°C; typical times: 40 min at 160°C, 30 min at 180°C, 20 min at 200°C.
-
Bondline thickness should not exceed 2 mm to prevent exotherm in thick joints.
